I will discuss the current picture of galaxy formation and evolution, focusing on the transformation of star-forming spirals into passive lenticulars by the influence of cluster environment. Specifically, I will show recent results of a study of the properties of the gas and the stars in a sample of 428 star-forming galaxies in different environments at 0 < z < 1.
