Mineral Deposit Geology

Module aims:

The course is concerned with the study of the more important metalliferous and industrial minerals deposits. Attention is given to their general geological characteristics; physical, chemical and mineralogical properties (industrial minerals); controls to mineralisation and genesis. Practical training is also given in techniques for mapping mineralisation and recording geological data pertaining to mineral deposits. Practical aspects are synthesised in a detailed study of the SW England orefield, theoretical aspects in an examination.
