Apply for a studentship

We are no longer accepting applications for entry in September 2017.

Recruitment for studentships commencing in September 2018 will open in early November 2017. 

The first year of the studentship includes a 6 month research project, and a substantial programme of training. Students will also follow a module of their choice from a wide range of taught modules, and participate in academic and personal development skills-based workshops, together with creativity events, conference-style meetings and visits to industry. Note that applications are processed as soon as they are received - they are not held until the deadline. Recruitment opens in November each year. Interviews start immediately with initial offers made from December.  You are therefore advised to apply as soon as possible.

Upper second or first class degree, or equivalent, in a relevant discipline.


Up to £95,000.
UK and EU: annual tuition fees, stipend (£14,500 - £16,500 in 2017/18) and project costs (approx. £11,000 travel and consumables)
Non-EU: International tuition fees and project costs only.

Please check individual project descriptions for stipend value noting that some industry funded projects may be available to UK applicants only.

Duration of award:

4 years. Entry in September only.
