The patient's view

Introduction

Patient-centred care is at the heart of good clinical practice and, contrary to popular opinion, is more than simple common sense. What better way to understand what matters most to our patients when in hospital or at the doctor's surgery, than by listening to their stories in own words?

These video clips show Vera, a remarkable and courageous lady who has been in and out of the healthcare system many times telling us about her experiences; some exemplary, others less so.

Two of the videos outline an experience which left her feeling distressed and unhappy and two highlight where the actions of the healthcare practitioner made for a more enriching experience.

Each session contains the same common set of suggested questions as in the Psychology for patient care pages as well as some clip-specific self test questions and answers.
