BSc Mathematics with Accounting

Programme structure

Year 1

In addition to taking core modules in Mathematics, you will acquire a broad understanding of the fundamentals of Accounting. If you have not studied Economics at A-level, you will be required to take the Introduction to Microeconomics module in place of an optional Mathematics module.

Year 2

You will take a range of core and optional modules in Mathematics. The available options include areas relevant to Business, such as statistics and statistical modelling. In the Accounting modules, you will gain a thorough grasp of the major techniques of modern management accounting, and will see how mathematical tools such as linear programming are used in commercial decision-making.

Year 3

In Mathematics, you will be able to choose from a wide range of optional modules. In Accounting, you will study theoretical and practical aspects of the key investment questions faced by firms and by individuals.

Please note all modules are subject to change.

The first year of this programme has introduced me to fascinating areas of mathematics, like cryptography and combinatorics. As well as teaching new subjects, the programme demonstrates a whole new approach to what has been previously learnt during A-level study. Some of these new approaches are more efficient, and the other, less efficient, approaches further develop understanding of the mathematics behind the problems.
