Programme variants
This programme is offered as either three years, or four years with Industrial Experience.
In terms of career opportunities this is an extremely strong degree qualification. The government funded e-skills council of the UK, established the IT Management for Business (ITMB) initiative in response to a demand from industry for managers with equally strong business management and IT technical skills. Since its inception, the programme has attracted sponsorship from many of the largest multinational companies, including Accenture, British Airways and the BBC. These employers require graduates who not only understand business and management process, but can interpret and communicate complicated technical ideas and supervise large-scale software development projects.
As an IT Management for Business student you will immediately benefit from the direct employer involvement, with guru lectures from business leaders, networking opportunities and support from inspiring career mentors. You will also become part of the e-skills community; an online networking service allowing interaction with industry experts and fellow students.
The e-skills website provides more information about the industry support and the e-skills community, with student and employer testimonials.
This programme is taught jointly by the University of Exeter Business School to ensure you benefit from their management and business expertise. Similarly, the computer science modules enable you to learn from enthusiastic experts who will not simply teach you how to use software but how to write it. In order to fully comprehend the IT systems you will be managing, you will need to understand how these systems are designed and implemented. By combining these disciplines we will prepare you to work at a high management level within organisations where IT systems are becoming increasingly dominant.

Watch our degree programme lead, students and industry sponsors talk about IT Management for Business
Computing technologies have had such a profound impact on humanity in the late 20th and early 21st century, that we now use them to define the period we live in – the “Information Age”. Computer science is the field of study that underpins this digital revolution. It is an exciting area of science, where new ideas and inventions are quickly turned into new technologies, which in turn can affect millions. As well as its impact on business and commerce, high-speed computation and the algorithms that make use of it underpin vast swathes of modern science, from mapping genomes and medical imaging, to the tracking satellites and the prediction of weather systems.
Our Computer Science degree programmes, with an emphasis on providing both technical and problem-solving skills, equip you to enter a wide-range of computing related roles in industry, from software development to consultancy and IT management, as well as jobs in research.

Admissions Tutor and Lecturer in Computer Science

ITMB is only available at a select number of universities and Exeter won out-right given its location close to the sea for surfing, and how green the campus was compared to other inner-city universities, not to mention the social scene and sports on offer. The small class sizes in the Computer Science side of the degree make a huge difference, allowing you to get a really good working relationship with all your class mates and lecturers, whilst having huge Business lectures means you can interact with a lot of different people in group exercises.
In my opinion, Exeter really does offer the best place to study in the UK outside of Oxbridge. It is constantly in the ‘Top 10’ with a really strong and active sports and social scene, which means that everyone is involved in something on Campus. When I graduate I hope to use some of the skills I have developed during my time in Exeter and move into the E-Business world. My aim is to end up as a Global E-Business Development Manager for an extreme sports company.
