I received my PhD in November 2005 from the University of East Anglia, Norwich, under the supervision of Dr Paul Hammerton. I began my Post-Doc at Exeter University in March 2006 where I am working with Prof. A. D. Gilbert, Prof. J. Thuburn and Prof. P. Ashwin. Outside of work, my interests include sports, films, music and walking. I'm a big football fan, and I follow the fortunes of both Chelsea FC and my home club Norwich City FC. I also play cricket throughout the year for the Erratics CC.
Research Interests
My current research interest is studying how a patch of vorticity is affected by imposing an external strain field on it. I'm interested in how the vorticity rearranges itself, and whether or not the vorticity winds up, or whether cat's eyes appear. I am also interested in how this rearrangement leads to mixing.
My other research interest is boundary layer receptivity. My main interest here is to calculate the amplitude of the Tollimien-Schlichting wave generated at the leading edge of a body at the lower branch neutral stability point, in an attempt to predict the point of transition along the body.
Teaching Interests
My teaching interests include fluid dynamics, hydrodynamics, hydrodynamic stability, water waves, lagrangian mechanics, advanced mathematical methods (inc. asymptotics) and partial differential equations.
Qualifications : PhD in Fluid Dynamics
