Dr Ed Keedwell received a BSc in Cognitive Science (1998) and a PhD in Computer Science (2003), both from the University of Exeter. He is currently a Temporary Lecturer in Computer Science and Director of the MSc in Applied Artificial Intelligence, having been a Research Fellow in the Centre for Water Systems for around six years previously. Dr. Keedwell has published one book "Intelligent Bioinformatics" and over 25 papers in computer science, bioinformatics and engineering publications.
Research Interests
Dr Keedwell has research interests in artificial intelligence techniques (e.g. genetic algorithms, neural networks, cellular automata) and their applications to a variety of difficult problems, often taken from industry. These include bioinformatics, systems biology, data cleaning and hydroinformatics.
He has recently collaborated with local and national companies on a number of projects in bioinformatics (e.g. the application of nature-inspired techniques for SNP analysis) and hydroinformatics (e.g. the use of nature-inspired and data mining techniques in the modelling and optimisation of water distribution systems).
