Maria Rosaria Marsico, Architect in 2005, PhD in Civil Engineering at the University of Naples, Federico II (2008), conducts research in Earthquake Engineering, Structural Dynamics, Structural Health Monitoring, Control Systems and Energy Dissipations. She is presently Teaching Fellow at the College of Engineering, Mathematics and Physical Sciences of the University of Exeter, UK.
She has been Research Assistant at the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Bristol. She worked on the instability of cables in stay-bridge in order to avoid the resonance effects for specific excitations of the deck due to wind or traffic’s vibrations and on the Experimental bifurcation analysis for hybrid testing methods (www.gow.epsrc.ac.uk/ViewGrant.aspx?GrantRef=EP/F030711/1).
In 2008 and 2009 she was Visiting Scholar at the Department of Civil Engineering of the University of California for six months respectively. She worked at the Pacific Earthquake Engineering Research Center (http://peer.berkeley.edu/index.html) of U.C. Berkeley with the Prof. James Maria Kelly. She optimised an innovative method to design buckling and roll-out displacement for multilayer elastomeric bearings used for seismic protection of buildings and to spread these devices in developing country through the use of low-cost seismic isolation systems for the protection of housing and other structures in earthquake-prone developing countries.
Dr. Marsico is a participant in the University Network of Seismic Engineering Laboratories (www.reluis.it) supported by the Department of Civil Protection in Italy. She is instructor of the course of “Dynamics and Control 2” at Bristol University. She is Teaching Assistant in the "Structure" module for the students of the Civil Engineering, Project and infrastructure Management Engineering, Environmental Engineering, structural Engineering of the University of Naples Federico II. She is reviewer for international conference and she published papers for national and international journals.
