James Graves is a member of the Energy Harvesting Research Group led by Prof. Meiling Zhu. The primary focus of his research is Multi-Source Energy Harvesting and Power Management.
Having recieved his MEng (Hons) in Electronic Engineering with Industrial Experience with First Class Honours at the University of Exeter in 2017, he went straight into a position as a PhD student at the university. During the time at Exeter, James held a sponsorship from Jaguar Land Rover for Electronic Engineering on their graduate programme, having worked there on two 3-month placements before opting to further his learning through academia.
Having grown up working in construction, his research interests incorporate a combination of mechanical and electronic experience to develop novel energy harvesting systems for previously unexplored applications. One current focus is within the marine sector, investigating the design and integration of energy harvesters for powering Unmanned Surface Vessels (USVs) for arctic exploration, without the use of solar or wind energy.
