Violette Harnois is a Research Associate and PhD student in marine renewable energy. Her main area of interest is mooring for Wave Energy Converters (WECs). She is currently working on two projects:

  • a TSB project, between University of Exeter and Fred Olsen, developing and testing a wave energy device
  • her PhD project,"Quantification of uncertainties in sea trial measurements and developement of best practices to support design of Marine Renewable Energy devices"

Prior to commencing her current role, Violette worked for a Scottish WEC developer, AWS Ocean Energy, as part of the Wavetrain2 network. She developed a mooring system for the WEC technology, analysed data from tank test and sea trials. She also holds an M.Sc. in Ocean Engineering from Ecole Centrale Marseille.

Academic Qualifications

2009: Diplome d'ingenieur, equivalent to a M.Sc., with a last year of specialisation in Ocean Engineering, at Ecole Centrale Marseille

2006: two year of intesive Maths and Physics course to prepare the competitive entrance of a "Ecole d'ingenieur" (MSc program)

2004: baccalaureat with honors, equivalent to A-level, in a multitude of fields, with a particular focus on Sciences
