Students present their project findings at our 'Poster Day'

Student projects

Companies can put forward specific areas of their business that they wish to be researched, or express an interest in working with students, but perhaps with no specific collaboration conceptualised.

Students can then suggest a product or a service that they feel may benefit the company, ascertained from their project research

A number of disciplines that we offer at the College of Engineering, Maths and Physical Sciences allow students to engage with businesses through collaborative work on a project. These can be carried out by individuals or groups across a range of disciplines:

If you are interested in working on a project with a discipline not listed above, please contact empsemployability@exeter.ac.uk to discuss further.

Individual projects

Individual student projects require students to apply the knowledge and skills obtained from taught modules to a real discipline-related situation at a professional level.

Group projects

Group student projects require an extra element of teamwork. Students must apply the knowledge and skills obtained from taught modules to a real discipline-related situation at a professional level.

What we need

  • A suitable project - they must be related to the student’s discipline.
  • A contact within your organisation who is able to communicate with the student and/or project supervisor at an appropriate level for the project.
  • Notice of your interest in offering a project before September 2016 (for projects to commence October 2016)

Timings

Undergraduate student projects run from the Autumn term (September to mid-December) through until May, when the student’s final report must be submitted. Masters student projects can take place at different times of year, if you are interested in working with a postgraduate student, please contact us for further details.

Confidentiality

We understand that companies need to protect their intellectual property and our Legal Services team is happy to work with you to produce a non-disclosure agreement.

Who to contact

If you think your organisation would be able to offer a student a chance to be involved with your business, or would like any further information, please do not hesitate to contact us at empsemployability@exeter.ac.uk
